The Biljane Donje Waste
Management Centre is remarkable for its size and complexity. The facility
covers an area of 46 hectares and will be used for the treatment of biological
and mixed municipal waste from the municipalities of Zadar and Ličko-Senj. The
overall infrastructure comprises a main access road, an entrance/exit facility
with a double weighbridge, an entrance facility and a bicycle wash bay, an MBO
building with a total capacity of 88,000 t/year, a non-hazardous waste landfill
with an area of 12 ha, which can accommodate a total of about 2,100,000 m3 of
non-hazardous waste. The facility also includes an inert waste landfill with an
area of 5.9 ha, which can hold a total of around 630,000 m3 of
construction waste, a waste disposal plant with MBR technology and a flare for
burning landfill gas, as well as an administration building, an open-air
collection centre, a transport centre with garages and workshops, a covered
storage area, a recycling yard for construction waste and all the necessary
infrastructure and transport routes within the waste management centre.
The centre is equipped with state-of-the-art technology that reduces
the environmental impact of waste management by recycling as many fractions as
possible, converting the combustible fraction into alternative fuels and
stabilising and disposing of the remainder with minimal environmental impact.
The event was attended by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Anja Šimpraga, Minister of Regional Development
and EU Funds, Mr Šime Erlić, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development,
Mr Damir Habijan, Minister of Justice and Administration, Mr Ivan Malenica and
