A business conference and meeting of Slovenian and Russian business
councils took place in the town of Oryol in the Russian Federation on 15
December, presided over by Janez Škrabec, Director of RIKO, on the Slovenian
side, and Eduard Vaino, Vice President of the AVTOVAZ corporation, on the
Russian side. The meeting, which was held under the auspices of the Governor of
the Oryol region, Vadim Potomski, represents the launch of economic cooperation
between the Oryol region and Slovenia
The Oryol region has approximately 750 thousand
inhabitants with the capital city of Oryol located 380 km southwest of Moscow.
The production of machinery, equipment for signalling and foundry products for
the Russian railways, stand out among the industrial sectors in the region. The
strongest industry is the production of food, especially sugar, cereals, dairy
products and meat.
On the sidelines of the meeting, RIKO signed an
agreement with the government of the Oryol region that the two would cooperate
in the organization of processing, food and light industry companies within the
Oryol region, specifically by constructing a factory for the deep processing of
wheat grain, a meat-processing plant, shoe production and a leather processing
plant.
